The presence of two teams from United World College (UWC) East Campus Singapore, at the PricewaterhouseCoopers Cup on 19th March and 7 girls from UWC participating in the Barclays Capital Cup on 26th March gave the tournament an international flavour.
The boys arrived on the morning of the 18th, laden with “excess baggage”, being all the gear collected over the last few months by UWC teachers, parents and students. The boys attended the ISF open day festivities before heading off to visit our children’s communities.
The girls unfortunately missed out on the open day, but did enjoy joining in the ISF classes. The UWC girls also had the opportunity, as did Margot Marks, of catching up with Song Channa, who had toured Singapore last November with the U16 Cambodian girls team. The UWC girls teamed up with players from Andong Relocation Village; all players enjoyed the experience with UWC girls already requesting a similar team mix next year.
The UWC visits were an excellent experience for everyone involved in both days.
A special thank you to Aravin Thatchavamoor, who came up from Singapore to referee and advise the ISF/SALT referees on how to officiate a game for deaf football players.
