For the third year running, ISF are proud to partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers to hold the Boys Football Tournament. A total of 24 teams from Siem Reap, Battambong, Kendal and Phnom Penh have been invited to participate. Every year this event has grown to facilitate more and more teams and players.
The success of the event and the benefit to the children is evident on their faces! The children in the ISF Education Centre are counting down the days on the calendar and can tell us (almost to the hour!!) how long is left before they get to play in Old Stadium!! The trophies and medals which are stored in the Country Manager’s office are being inspected on a regular basis and there is a promise that they will be coming back with the ISF team!! Let’s hope they are not disappointed!
The first annual PricewaterhouseCoopers ISF Cup for the boys was held in 2008. This one day tournament which took place in Old Stadium in Phnom Penh, allowed the children to show the skills they had learned at the regular training sessions provided by ISF’s coaches under ISF’s Football coaching programme. The tournament brought together teams from Kendal, Phnom Penh and Battambong and allowed ISF team sponsors the opportunity to support their teams.
At that time, ISF had 4 female teams and they were given the opportunity to showcase their talent on the day to encourage other females to participate. ISF is committed to bring the opportunity to play football to more females throughout the country in the coming year.
The first tournament was preceded by an official launch held at the Australian Ambassador’s residence in the presence of His Royal Highness Pheanuroth Sisowath.
At the second tournament representatives from FIFA attended to observe the work undertaken by ISF and support the tournament. .
These tournaments give a fantastic opportunity for some of Cambodia’s most underprivileged children who would otherwise not have the chance to play, let alone play in such a stadium. They provide the children with memories that will last a lifetime.
